My Focus
Much of this work was made as practice for my classes-- Drawing, Spatial Dynamics, and Design-- though I was given lots of creative freedom to work with mediums and subjects that I was interested in. I focused especially on light and its interaction with color, form, and soft materials such as paper and fabric. This does not encompass all of my work made during my first semester at RISD. Theme: Growing Into Adulthood
My Inquiry
My sustained investigation centers around my relationship with my family and my childhood. As I have begun to enter adulthood, I have had to confront questions about who I am as a person and what I want to do with my life. This has prompted further introspection into my relationship with my parents and sister, the ways that they shaped me into the person I am today, and what elements of our relationship I want to bring forward or leave behind. I created this portfolio in an attempt to better understand the many facets of myself, my personality, and my upbringing.

Theme: Wings and Flight
My Inquiry
My inquiry is based on flight. Birds fascinate me because to humans, they seem so free but they are still limited by the laws of nature, so I frequently use birds to depict flight in my series. Some questions that guided my investigation were: Why do people dream of flying? How does the desire to fly manifest literally and metaphorically? My inquiry lingered on the want to fly even with the possibility of hurting yourself. What repercussions can from the thwarted desire to be something you’re not?
